[11 October 2011] – On 11 October 2011, DCI submitted a complaint to the Israeli authorities on behalf of 15-year-old Ahmad F. The complaint requests the Judge Advocate General to open an investigation into allegations that Ahmad was mistreated by Israeli soldiers in July 2011.
At around 2:00 am, on 6 July 2011, Israeli soldiers stormed Ahmad’s house in the village of Burin, near Nablus, and ordered the family to gather in the living room. Approximately one hour later, Ahmad was informed that he was ‘wanted for interrogation’ and he was tied and led out of the house. When Ahmad’s brother asked the soldiers where he was being taken they repeatedly beat him with their rifles. Ahmad was taken to Huwwara interrogation and detention centre where he reports, amongst other things, that soldiers placed food on his body and then brought a dog over to eat the food, in what Ahmad describes as a terrifying experience. Ahmad was later transferred to Ari’el settlement for interrogation where he was accused of throwing stones. Ahmad was not informed of his right to silence and was interrogated in the absence of his parents – rights Israeli children would normally be afforded in similar circumstances.
Several days later Ahmad was transferred to Megiddo prison inside Israel, in violation of Article 76 of the Fourth Geneva Convention which expressly prohibits such transfers
