Mubarak moves to restart economy as protesters stand their ground

Cairo Egypt’s defiant strongman Hosni Mubarak showed no signs of quitting Saturday, the 12th day of protests, while demonstrators stood their ground in Tahrir Square, and massive protests also took place in Alexandria, Mahalla and Giza.

The Egypt President, however, met with ministers holding economic portfolios, head of the central bank, and the ministers of finance, oil and trade at the presidential palace.

Officials later said that banks will  see a limited reopening on Sunday, and that the country’s stock exchange will reopen on Monday.

The country’s credit rating and economic outlook have been downgraded by rating agencies due to the political unrest.

Analysts say the uprising is costing the country at least $310m a day.
