The researcher at Tadamun Foundation for human rights, Ahmed Beitawi, told Quds Press: "The participation in this conference is obligatory and necessary because the issue of Palestinian prisoners should be on the top priorities and should rise above all political differences between the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip."
He called on all Palestinian governmental and non-governmental human rights organizations to unite their efforts in order to serve the prisoners' case.
Beitawi stressed the importance of international conferences in supporting the captives, noting that they represent a step towards internationalizing the prisoners' issue. He called for developing a detailed and systematic plan to support this issue at the legal, media and public levels.
The "Change and Reform" bloc in the Palestinian Legislative Council considered that hosting an international conference supporting Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails by Tunisia is "a natural outgrowth of the Arab Spring revolutions and proves the recognition that the prisoners are defenders of the dignity of the Arab and Islamic nation."
The bloc described in a statement on Saturday the conference as a "great initiative" and hoped that it will "lead to more events able to liberate the captives."
The international conference in support of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails kicked off this morning in the Tunisian capital, Tunis, under the official auspices of the Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki.
