The Member of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) and of the PLO Executive Committee, Taysir Khalid, called of the Palestinian government to set a Palestinian Committee in order to record and monitor the Israeli crimes in the Gaza Strip, West Bank and Jerusalem during these past three months. The Committee would work beside the international committee that is going to be set by the end of the week. The Human Rights Council declared the 23rd of July that they would set an International Committee to investigate the Israeli crimes during the last aggression against Gaza. This committee is set to be implemented immediately.
They added that the work of this International committee will be different that the UN Fact Finding Mission of the Gaza Conflict Committee in 2008-2009, known as the Goldstone Report. The name comes after the Judge Richard Goldstone who was the head of the mission. In this case, the mission was to write a report for the United Nations and the Security Council, who set the mission. However, this Committee the Human Rights Council is going to establish will be allocated more powers. They will be able to ask the UN General Security to take the report to the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court and prosecute Israel for them. This was not possible in the Goldstone mission.
Taysir stressed that this is a very important chance to take Israel to court for its latest attack on Gaza, which has caused 1890 killings and over 9,800 injuries, 33% of whom are children. They have also caused great damage to the property, buildings and infrastructure all over the Gaza Strip.
