-- There are conflicting reports over who controls Zawiyah, 60 kilometres (40 miles) west of Tripoli. State television says pro-government forces control the town, a claim rebels vehemently deny. Britain?s Sky News reports at least 30 people were killed in Zawiyah after soldiers fire on protesters.
-- Police fire tear gas at anti-Kadhafi protesters in Tripoli. Some 100 demonstrators clash with police in eastern Tripoli after Friday prayers, a witness says. Another witness reports regime supporters and opponents clashed near the capital's Green Square. Foreign journalists in Tripoli have been ordered to stay in their hotels.
-- The UN's refugee agency says heavily-armed pro-regime forces control Libya's border with Tunisia, and fears this may be stopping people from fleeing the violence. After tens of thousands flooded over the border in the past days, fewer than 2,000 people crossed on Thursday. The Red Crescent says that around 100,000 in total have fled to Tunisia since February 20.
-- Kadhafi forces launch an air strike on the edge of the opposition-held town of Ajdabiya. Rebels report no damage or casualties.
-- Rebels defeat a dawn attack on the northern oil town of Brega, the first real military battle since the uprising began on February 15.
