ADC Calls on Obama not to Veto Palestine’s UN Membership

Palestine News & Info Agency - WAFA
WASHINGTON, September 24, 2011 (WAFA) – The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) Friday called on US President Barack Obama and his administration “not to veto the quest for Palestinian statehood.”

It said in a statement that President Mahmoud Abbas’ application to United Nations General Assembly for membership marks “a historic moment for the Palestinian people and the entire international community.”

ADC said that “supporting Palestinian self-determination would be a significant opportunity for the United States to exercise its leadership in moving forward towards a just and lasting peace in the Middle East-- which cannot be achieved without the recognition of a Palestinian state.”

It said that “a veto by the US would impact America’s credibility in the region and in the international arena.”
ADC is a grassroots Arab-American civil rights and civil liberties organization based in the US. It was founded in 1980 by former US Senator James Abourezk.
