Israel terrorizes WB ahead of UN bid

Gaza,(Alresalah.ps)-- Israeli forces have abducted at least nine Palestinians in various parts of the West Bank as Tel Aviv steps up a campaign of terror ahead of the planned Palestinian UN statehood bid.
The civilians were arrested on Monday during operations in the cities of Jenin, al-Khalil and Bethlehem. A member of the resistance movement Hamas is reported to be among those captured.

Witnesses say some of the Palestinians were taken away from their homes during overnight raids.

Despite a security agreement with the Palestinian Authority, the Israeli army frequently raids Palestinian homes in the West Bank and arrests Palestinians. The recent arrests come ahead of the Palestinian Authority's planned statehood bid at the United Nations on September 20th.

Israel and the US strongly oppose the move. Washington has already said it will veto any such bid to the UN Security Council (UNSC).

The future Palestinian state would include the West Bank and Gaza, with East al-Quds (Jerusalem) as its capital. The PA says it believes that more than 130 countries would recognize the state of Palestine based on the pre-1967 borders.

However, if the effort is blocked at the UNSC, Palestinians say they will turn to the General Assembly, where they are expected to easily win the vote to upgrade representation from observer body to non-member state.

The 66th UN General Assembly, due to open on September 20, 2011, will vote on a Palestinian state.
