RAMALLAH, November 22, 2011 (WAFA) - Foreign Affairs Minister, Riyad Al-Malki, and Director of the Government Media Center, Ghassan Al-Khatib, Tuesday called on the international community to pressure Israel to release the withheld tax revenues belonging to the Palestinian Authority.
In an interview with Voice of Palestine, Al-Malki said that the PA approached the Arab League for an intervention with the international community to release the PA tax funds, pointing out that there are no Arab funding alternatives to cover the deficit in the PA budget.
He called on Arab countries to meet their obligations and provide the financial assistance to the PA.
For his part, Al-Khateeb said the Palestinian Authority and government are looking for ways to pressure Israel to release the PA’s withheld tax revenues.
He affirmed that the tax revenues withheld by Israel are a Palestinian right, pointing to the continuing financial crisis due to the withheld revenues, in particular the issue of public sector salaries.
He added that the PA is cutting its expenses in order to increase local revenues, as long as this does not affect basic daily services to the Palestinian people.Palestine News & Info Agency - WAFA
