Rights Group Condemns Israeli Navy Attack on Olivia Boat

RAMALLAH, December 29, 2011 (WAFA) – The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) condemned the Israeli navy attack on Olivia, an international boat to monitor human rights in Gaza waters, injuring an international activist, according to a PCHR statement on Thursday.

It also condemned the Israeli violations of international law and Palestinian fishermen’s rights, including the Fourth Geneva convention of 1949.

The international community called to stop the Israeli navy’s attacks against Olivia, as Olivia works peaceful, aiming to protect Palestinian fishermen’s rights to work freely.

The Israeli military boat had intercepted and rammed into Olivia boat on Wednesday, carrying fishermen and foreign activists to document the Israeli violations of international law against Palestinian fishermen, injuring and bruising an activist despite the fact that Olivia did not cross the three-nautical-mile fishing grounds defined in international agreements.

To be noted, Olivia boat has been subjected to similar attacks by the Israeli navy boats since it started its work, several months ago, aiming to stop the activists from practicing their work.
