The so-called Construction and Planning Committee of the Jerusalem City Council, is scheduled to meet on Monday to approve a final draft on a new massive settlement projects in Silwan town, in occupied East Jerusalem.
The El Ad Association, who are one of the principal supporters illegal settlement construction and expansion, and heavily supported by Zionist groups in the United states, managed to construct a significant part of the project despite the fact that the project has not been approved yet.
The project is being submitted under the guise of tourism, while Palestinian experts, and settlement watchdogs, said that the project is meant to boost the settlement movement in occupied Jerusalem.
Israeli Radio announced that the project would take up around three acres. It would include a visitor’s center, a parking lot, and underground diving pools.
The radio added that the committee ratified the first phase of the project three months ago.
Director of the Jerusalem Center for Civil and Economic rights, Ziyad Hammouri, said that Israel has plans to destroy various neighborhoods in the Silwan and al-‘Abbasiyya areas, in East Jerusalem.
He added that Israel is trying to preclude any future talks on the future of East Jerusalem in order to prevent any withdrawal from the occupied city, the anticipated capital of the future Palestinian state.
Hammouri also said that Israel’s efforts for the "Judaisation" of the occupied city, are manifesting themselves, especially after Israel’s latest decision to destroy a whole neighborhood the contains 29 Arab homes homes in Silwan.
