GAZA, (PIC)-- Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) opened fire Wednesday afternoon at Gaza Municipality crews, hitting one of their vehicles in a clear violation of the 72-hour ceasefire declared on Tuesday morning.
Gaza Municipality said in a statement that Israeli forces stationed at east Gaza city opened fire at its crews while inspecting the damage in Shujaia neighborhood. A vehicle belonging to the municipality was directly hit.
The municipality earlier declared that the Israeli aggression had deeply and significantly damaged the city’s infrastructure.
The statement pointed to the total destruction of water network and water pumping and sewage facilities.
The municipality said that five trash trucks were completely destroyed as well as nine water wells.
On the other hand, the Secretary General of the Palestinian National Initiative, Mustafa Barghouthi, stressed that lifting the siege on Gaza must include the establishment of seaport and the opening of maritime route to Gaza under international protection.
Barghouthi said on Wednesday that lifting the siege on Gaza would be fragile and uncertain if Gaza border crossings remained under Israeli control.
