Fayyad Condemns Israeli Crime in Qalandia

RAMALLAH, August 1,2011(Wafa) –Prime Minster Salam Fayyad condemned on Monday the Israeli attack on Qalandia, a refugee camp in Ramallah, killing two Palestinians, and injuring another.
Fayyad said, “This crime represents another episode in the Israeli long and continuing series of crimes against our people.”
During an Israeli raid, Monday at dawn to arrest Palestinian youths in the camp, Israeli soldiers opened fire randomly, killing Motasem Adwan, 22, after a direct shot in the head and Ali Khalifa who died of severe injuries after they shot him in the stomach.
Mumoun Awad, 24, was seriously injured and two others were arrested, according to medical sources.
The premier said, “Besides our complete rejection and strong condemnation of the Israeli raids, I think that the Israeli use of violence against our unarmed people reflects a hostility and racism trend, as well as a culture of irresponsibility and indifference, of which the Israeli government holds fully responsible.”
Fayyad warned of the serious consequences of the continued military raids, renewing his call upon the international community to uphold its responsibilities, by pressuring Israel to stop such criminal practices, and to prevent the deterioration of the Security status due to this policy. He added that if Israel continues these measures and violations against our people it will only lead to more violence and undermines the stability achieved by the PA’s immense efforts.
He concluded “it’s very contradicting that this attack against our people in Qalandia followed talks with the Israelis about facilitations to be granted to the Palestinians for Ramadan. “We don’t want the crumbs! We want to stop the aggression and we want this occupation to end, and it’s time for the international community to directly uphold its responsibility to end it.”
