US Urges Security Council to Take Time on Palestinian Bid

NEW YORK, September 27, 2011 (WAFA) - The Washington Post published Tuesday that the US government has urged members of the United Nations Security Council to take time in considering the Palestinian bid.

It said the US believes that slowing down in reaching a decision may allow the resumption of Palestinian-Israeli peace talks without a conflict at the UN.

US officials said they were telling members at the UN that “there is no rush to act on the bid submitted Friday,” so as to consider US and Israeli objections, according to the paper.

It said that the US is also asking for cooperation from other members in persuading the Palestinians not to push for a quick vote.

“The US has vowed to veto the Palestinian resolution and would prefer to avoid a vote on the matter. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity to describe confidential diplomacy,” it said. Palestine News & Info Agency - WAFA
