PA: Israel bears 'full responsibility' for hunger-striker

BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- The Palestinian Authority cabinet on Tuesday reiterated its position that Israel bears "full responsibility" for the well-being of detainee Khader Adnan, who has been on hunger strike for weeks.

Ministers called on the Israeli government to commit to ensuring "his immediate release and nullifying (an) administrative detention" which allows the Israeli state to hold him for months without charge.

A statement from the cabinet condemned "continued Israeli violations against our people," including an "attempted raid" on the Al-Aqsa Mosque over the weekend following calls from the governing party.

Members of the Likud called to arrive at the holy site "in order to pray there and calling for its demolition and the building of the temple on its ruins," the statement said, condemning plans to approve a museum on ruins of the site.

The cabinet also denounced a ministerial committee's approval of a plan that would encourage settlements by providing tax incentives, noting that settlers had just this week defaced Muslim and Christian sites.
