Maan News Agency: Arab League chief urges support for Palestinian UN bid
CAIRO (Ma'an) -- Arab League Secretary-General Nabil al-Arabi on Saturday urged international leaders to support Palestine's bid for full UN membership.
Al-Arabi met with the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Roza Otunbayeva and the French, Norwegian, Swedish and Kazakhstani forwign ministers in a series of meetings on the sidelines of the 66th UN General Assembly session in New York, the Arab League said in a statement.
President Mahmoud Abbas submitted a request for a state of Palestine to be admitted as a full member of the UN to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Friday.
A spokesman for Ban's office said Friday the letter had been transmitted to the UN Security Council which will now examine the documents.
