It is estimated that 8,000 Palestinian children, including some as young as 12-years-old, have been arrested and detained by the Israeli authorities since 2000. According to a report released in early March by Save the Children and the East Jerusalem YMCA Rehabilitation Program, 98 percent were subjected to physical or psychological violence during their arrets and detention, and 90 percent suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) upon their release. The AIC spoke with YMCA Rehabilitation Program Director Nader Abu Amsha about the human rights violations Israel commits in arresting Palestinian children, the challenges the children face when they are released from prison, and what needs to be done to improve the situation.
