JERUSALEM, August 15, 2012 (WAFA) – Around half million Palestinian Muslims spent Tuesday’s night at al-Haram al-Sharif, which houses al-Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock, in East Jerusalem to mark Lailat al Qadr, the holiest night in Ramadan that marks the night in which the Qur'an was first revealed to Prophet Muhammad.
Worshippers from across the West Bank, Jerusalem and behind the 'green line' arrived at al-Haram al-Sharif since early Tuesday, the 26th day of Ramadan, but mainly after sunset to perform all night prayers.
Israel announced earlier this week that it will allow Palestinian women of all ages, children, and men over 40 years from the West Bank to freely enter Jerusalem on this occasion, causing heavy jams at all checkpoints leading to the city.
