Israeli Forces Raze Artesian Water Wells

Palestine News & Info Agency - WAFA

NABLUS, September 8, 2011 (WAFA) – Israeli forces Thursday razed artesian water wells in al-Naseriya, a village east of Nablus in the Jordan Valley area, after declaring the village a closed military zone, said local sources.

Chairman of Jordan Valley Central Agricultural Association, Said Ishtayeh, told WAFA that Israeli forces razed three artesian water wells that irrigate around 1500 dunums of agricultural land in the village.

Ishtayeh added that Israeli soldiers stuffed the razed wells with dirt and stone to prevent future utilization.

Due to the Israeli assaults, the agricultural season will be abruptly ended, especially that the wells are the only water source in the hot region, and any attempt to revive irrigated farming will be impossible due to the excessive heat and lack of water, warned Ishtayeh.

He indicated that tens of Palestinian families will lose their income, saying that the last Israeli razing of water wells took place about a month ago.

In a related matter, Israeli soldiers also confiscated the fuel tanks used to supply water pumps in the village, according to witnesses.
