Germany for Two-State Solution through Negotiations, says Spokesman

Palestine News & Info Agency - WAFA

BERLIN, September 20, 2011 (WAFA) – Germany supports the two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and stresses the need to resume negotiations, Tuesday said Steffen Seibert, spokesman for Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Merkel said that her government focuses on resuming direct negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian Authority to reach the two-state solution.

Seibert said that the German government considers negotiations a central element in order to avoid confrontations and unintended consequences.

German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle called on the Palestinian and Israeli sides to revive the negotiations, warning of escalations without negotiations.

“The way to peace in the Middle East based on the two-state solution is achieved through negotiations,” he said.

Westerwelle will be attending the sixty-sixth session of the United Nations General Assembly later this week
