Large rally to receive Abbas in Ramallah

GAZA, Sept 25 (KUNA) -- Fatah movement and national institutions called on the Palestinians to take part in the great rally organized to receive President Mahmoud Abbas as he arrives back frojm New York.
Fatah stressed on the Palestinians to participate in the reception rally to take place in front of late President Yasser Arafat shrine in Ramallah, the movement said in a statement today.
The General Union of Palestine Workers (GUPW) announced suspending the working day on Sunday until 1 pm to allow the employers to take part in the event.
"We call on the employers and their families to take part in this national event as befits our great leader", GUPW said in a statement.
General Union of Palestinian Teachers in the West Bank announced suspending the working day and school day for students, teachers and workers in the Ministry of Education, to also participate in the rally.
Abbas arrived yesterday in Amman, on his way back from New York, after he presented the Palestinian state bid for full UN membership.
Demonstrations and sit-ins took place last night in the West Bank during Abbas's speech at the UN.
United States and Israel strongly opposed the Palestinian bid presented by Abbas to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.
Abbas called on members of the UN Security Council to vote in favour of the Palestinian bid.
The speech he gave in the Security Council, witnessed positive interaction by the audience.
"Time has came for the Palestinian people to gain their freedom and independence, and to end the suffering of millions of refugees inside and outside Palestine", Abbas affirmed in his speech.
