Palestinians Protest Racial Closure of North West Jerusalem Area

JERUSALEM, September 18, 2011 (WAFA) – Tens of Palestinians from North West Jerusalem demonstrated on Sunday in protest of the occupation’s tightly closure, caused by the separation wall, transforming it into ‘Bestenun’ area, northwest of Jerusalem.

The protesters, who come from 11 villages and localities, raised banners and signs denouncing depriving them from using street 44, in spite of the Israeli high court decision allowing them to use it.

They stressed that they are besieged and denied the freedom of movement, in favor of the settlers who live in the area.

In a related matter, coordinator of the popular movement campaign, Said Yaqeen, stressed their support of the Palestinian leadership’s move; going to the United Nations (UN).

He added that the residents demonstrate today demanding their right to use the roads that have been closed since the second Intifada.

He added that 60,000 residents are being ‘jailed’ in order to provide free movement for hundreds of extremist settlers.

Jerusalemite Husam al-Sheikh said that the occupation forces created an alternative road for the Palestinians through dangerous and unsafe tunnels, which became ‘death tunnels’ due to its lack of health and traffic safety conditions, while freedom of movement over these tunnels is given to the settlers.

Jerusalemite Nabeel al-Jamal called on the world to pressure the Israeli government to reopen the closed entrances of the 11 villages north west of Jerusalem.

The protest was followed by another cars demonstration, stressing on the rejection of the Israeli measures, aiming at emptying the area of its residents due its closeness to occupied Jerusalem.
