Quartet to meet Israelis, Palestinians in occupied Jerusalem Oct 26

WASHINGTON, Oct 17 (KUNA) -- The Quartet envoys will be meeting with Palestinian and Israeli officials in occupied Jerusalem in October 26, it was announced here Monday.
State Department Deputy Spokesman Mark Toner told reporters that "the Quartet envoys will be meeting with the parties in Jerusalem on October 26th and with the aim to begin preparations and develop an agenda for proceeding in the negotiations." He affirmed that "we're making progress. This is an important step." "It's a stepping stone along that timetable that was laid out by the Quartet that will hopefully lead back to direct negotiations. We're going to continue working along that framework," Toner remarked.
He stressed, "we believe that the quickest way to resolve all of these outstanding issues is for both parties to get back to the negotiating table." "That's our goal. That's where our focus remains," he affirmed.
The Quartet -- consisting of the US, UN, the EU and Russia -- has been attempting to just-start negotiations between the Israelis and Palestinians for a long time now, but bids intensified after Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas submitted an official request to join the UN and declare the independent Palestinian state.
