The deaths occurred in the al-Fakhari region of Khan Yunis, where bombing was reported around midnight on Sunday. On Saturday afternoon, nine members of Islamic Jihad were killed in airstrikes on the coastal territory and one Israeli was killed in Ashkelon. A truce between Islamic Jihad and Israel was mediated by Egypt on Sunday, but Israel killed two more Palestinians on Sunday.

The Israeli army claimed that Ahmad Jarkoun, a leader of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) armed wing, was preparing to fire a rocket. Another man was critically wounded.

According to Israeli officials, three rockets were fired after the truce was called at 6 a.m. on Sunday. Islamic Jihad confirmed that it fired rockets after the initial Israeli airstrike on Saturday killed five of its main leaders, including Ahmed Sheikh Khalil.

The Palestinians killed also included 21-year-old Sami Abu Sabt, 25-year-old Suleiman Abu Fatima, 25.
