BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) – Representatives of Palestinian factions started an open hunger strike Wednesday in solidarity with Sheikh Khader Adnan, who has been on hunger strike in Israeli jail for almost two months.

Hunger-strikers are gathering at a sit-in tent which dozens of young Palestinians erected near offices of the International Committee of the Red in Gaza City.

Islamic Jihad leaders Sheikh Nafth Azzam, Ahmad Al-Mudallal, Dawood Shihab and Khader Habib have joined the strike along with dozens of others affiliated to various Palestinian factions and civil society organizations.

Ahmad Al-Mudallal says the decision to join hunger strike comes to “support the battle of dignity of Sheikh Khader Adnan.” He added, “This is the least we can do to this legendary symbol.”

Adnan’s wife Randa told reporters that she would visit him Wednesday. This will be the second visit Randa pays to her husband. The first visit was when Adnan entered his 53rd day of hunger strike.
