Israeli Bulldozers Raze Playground, Protest Tent in East Jerusalem

JERUSALEM, February 13, 2012 (WAFA) – Bulldozers of the Israeli municipality of Jerusalem Monday razed a play ground, a protest tent, as well as barracks for horses in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan, reported Wadi Hilweh Information Center.

The Israeli bulldozers razed a local children playground in Wadi Hilweh area in Silwan, under the pretext that the playground land belongs to the National Gardens Authority and the Israeli municipality.

The Information Center added that the local residents filed a law suit against the Israeli municipality after it attempted to confiscate the land to turn it into a public parking. No court order has been issued.

In addition, Israeli bulldozers razed a protest tent that was set up by Wadi Hilweh residents in 2007 to protest the Israeli confiscation of Palestinian property in the city for settlements’ expansion.

Meanwhile, tension is high in Silwan as an Israeli court will look into the case against the set-in tent in al-Bustan area in the neighborhood later this day.
