Occupation penalise captive with solitary for second time in a couple of weeks

GAZA, (PIC)-- Researcher in prisoners’ affairs, Reyadh al-Ashqar, said that the Askalan prison administration penalised Muhammad al-Rajabi (44) from al-Khalil to a seven day spell and a ban on visits for five months.

Ashqar said that the prisoner was penalised because he listened to radio during stroll time. He was listening to the news when the time for the stroll came and the cells were opened, so he carried the radio with him to listen to the rest of the news and went out. Upon his return to the cell, the administration called him and informed him of the penalty. He was moved to an isolation cell in the Askalan prison.

Ashqar said that this was the second time in a couple of weeks that Rajabi is punished by solitary confinement as he was sent to solitary towards the end of January, because he gave a cup of tea to another captive who works in the section. He was punished then by one week in solitary and a ban on one visit.

Rajabi was arrested on 1 July 2002 and is serving a 16-life term sentence.
