Members of Anonymous have published the contact details for thousands of staff members at arms dealers in an attempt to embarrass the companies, which include BAE Systems and Lockheed Martin, over the deaths of Palestinians.
The data dumps on Pastebin appear to include emails addresses for senior staff at BAE, Lockheed and airplane maker Gulfstream Aerospace, a division of General Dynamics.
The release of the data was accompanied by a handful of tweets, using the hashtag #OpFreePalestine.
However, while the intention may have been to embarrass military contractors, the data dumps contained little valuable information – many of the telephone numbers listed were for company headquarters, while several of the names appeared to be out of date.
Other data dumps associated with the #OpFreePalestine tag included details of Coca Cola employees and some private details on BBC director general Mark Thompson, including the name of the church he attends.
The message accompanying the Coca Cola release accused the company of “supporting war criminals”.
No explanation was given for invading the privacy of the BBC director.
The dumping of contact details for company staff is a far cry from the usual Anonymous tactics of unleashing denial of service attacks or hacking corporate IT systems.
Several Anonymous members were recently arrested in a high-profile sting by the Federal Bureau Investigations, during which it emerged that one of the most notorious Anonymous hackers, Sabu, had been acting as an informant for months.
BAE, Lockheed and General Dynamics had not responded to requests for comment at the time of publication.
