GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- Palestinians deported to Gaza by Israel in 2002 appealed to PA Prime Minister Salam Fayyad to help secure permits for their families to visit them during Ramadan, a group spokesman told Ma'an Tuesday.
In 2002, Israel deported 26 Palestinians to Gaza after they took shelter in the Nativity Church during Israel's siege on the West Bank city of Bethlehem. Israeli forces surrounded the church for 40 days before the deal was reached to deport the men inside, who were wanted by the Israeli army.
The deportees wished all Palestinians a happy Eid, spokesman for the group Fahmi Kanan said.
Kanan stressed that the exiles were suffering greatly as Israeli authorities prevented their families from traveling to visit them.
