Erekat Calls for International Intervention to Stop Israeli War on Gaza

Palestine News & Info Agency - WAFA -
JERICHO, November 20, 2012 (WAFA) – Chief negotiator Saeb Erekat, in statement Tuesday, called for an immediate international intervention to stop the Israeli ongoing attack on Gaza, holding the Israeli authorities fully responsible for the implications of its aggression on the strip.

During a meeting with British Secretary of State for Middle East Affairs Alistair Burt Erekat said that the international law affirms the responsibility of the world countries to protect civilians in time of war and that Gaza is an occupied land just like the rest of the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

“How can Israel’s attack on Gaza be called self defense when it is besieging and shelling with planes an unarmed people that are under its occupation?” Erekat questioned.

He stressed that all nations are equal under international law and that there are no people better than others.

He siad that any country that refuses to vote in favor of Palestine at the United Nations to gain a non-member state status would be against international law and the two-state solution.
