Blast kills 2 Palestinian tunnel workers, injures 6 in S. Gaza Strip

GAZA, Sept 24 (KUNA) -- Two Palestinian tunnel workers were killed and six others were injured, some seriously, in a gas blast at a border tunnel in Rafah city, south Gaza Strip, on Friday, said medical sources.
The accident took place in Al-Salam district on the borders with Egypt, the sources told reporters here.
They identified the two killed persons as Bassam Abu-Ziyadah, 33 and Mohammad Abedine, 25; both from Khan Yunis, south Gaza Strip.
The six injured persons were rushed to a Rafah hospital.
The tunnels, used for trafficking foodstuffs, medicines and fuel from Egypt to the besieged people in Gaza, are believed to be one of the main sectors of employment.
Dozens of Palestinians fell victim to similar accidents over the last four years since the Israeli occupation authorities imposed the inhumane blockade on the territory in June, 2007.
