Prisoners Protest Tying them When Meeting with Lawyers, Fear Israeli Reaction to Palestinian Move to UN

RAMALLAH, September 20, 2011 (WAFA) – The Palestinian Prisoner’s Club’s (PPC) lawyer confirmed on Tuesday that the prisoners in Shatta prison refused to meet their lawyers, protesting the prison’s administration’s decision to tie their hands and feet when they meet their lawyers.

In a statement, the PPC considered this decision as an arbitrary measure, which aims to humiliate and suppress the Palestinian prisoners, leading them to escalate the situation in order to impose more punishments against them.

PPC’s lawyer said that the prison’s administration escalated its measures against the prisoners; raids, inspections and transferring them from prison to another, which seriously affected a number of prisoners.

In a related matter, Palestinian prisoners at Ofer prison expressed their fear of the prison’s administration to escalate its arbitrary measures and impose more punishments against them, in the upcoming days, as a reaction to the Palestinian leadership’s move to the United Nations (UN) to seek full membership of a Palestinian state.
