West Bank ordinance blast kills two children

Two Palestinian children were killed on Tuesday when unexploded military ordinance detonated near the West Bank city of Hebron, Israeli and Palestinians sources said.

"An explosion occurred near Beni Naim, east of Hebron, causing the death of two Palestinians and the injury of several others," an Israeli military spokeswoman told AFP.

"The initial investigation indicates that the explosion was caused by an unexploded ordinance that was ignited."

Palestinian police earlier announced the deaths of the two children, whom they named as Hamza Jaradat and Zayed Jaradat, saying three others were also injured in the blast and taken to a hospital in nearby Hebron.

"A suspicious object exploded ... killing two children, both aged 12, and injuring three others," a police official said, adding that the cause of the blast was not immediately clear.

Unexploded ordinance has occasionally detonated in parts of the West Bank and Gaza, maiming or killing Palestinians.
