RAMALLAH, November 11, 2012 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas Sunday said that the only way to face the settlement activities and save the two-state solution is by seeking the United Nations.
During a speech to commemorate the eightieth anniversary of the death of Palestinian Leader Yassir Arafat, Abbas said that the hysterical reaction of Israel towards our bid to the United Nations is due to their adherence to occupation.
Abbas affirmed that Refugees, borders, Jerusalem, security and water issues can only be solved through negotiations.
“Your security is in peace with the Palestinians,” said Abbas addressing the Israelis “We are staying in our land. Freeze the settlement activities that will only kill the two-state solution.”
He affirmed that the Palestinian Authority is the sole representative of the Palestinian people, pointing out that Arafat realized the importance of uniting all Palestinians under one leadership.
“We are committed to ending the Palestinian division, as well as to a free and fair presidential and legislative elections,” Abbas said.
He also insisted on the importance of the Palestinian prisoners’ issue and reiterated his promise to make maximum efforts to speed up the process of their release, especially those who were imprisoned before 1993.
Abbas said that “in cooperation with Swiss and Russian experts and French investigators, we are working on finding new facts that reveals the reasons behind the death of Arafat.”
