Four Israeli raids on Gaza after rockets fired

THE DAILY STAR :: News
GAZA CITY: Israel carried out four air raids against the Gaza Strip early Monday, wounding a Palestinian child, witnesses and medics said.
The aircraft also targeted a police post in the El Tufah neighborhood, east of Gaza City, and carried out two raids in the north of the territory, witnesses said.
Medics said that a separate raid, which followed a rocket attack on Israeli territory, wounded a 6-year-old boy while aiming for a smuggling tunnel between Gaza and Egypt near the Rafah crossing point.
The raids were “in reply to continued rocket attacks against the south of Israel,” the Israeli army said in a statement, saying that 15 rockets had been fired at Israel so far this month, hitting houses twice and “causing damage.”
Meanwhile, Israel has agreed to compensate a family from southern Gaza whose two sons were shot dead by Israeli troops during 22 days of fighting through New Year 2009, a human rights group said Monday.
According to a statement from the Gaza-based Palestinian Centre for Human Rights, Israel has agreed to pay compensation of 430,000 shekels ($108,315) to the Shurrab family from Khan Yunis.
On Jan. 16, 2009, Mohammad Shurrab was driving through the city with his two sons, Kassab and Ibrahim, during a truce period when the army opened fire at the car, causing it to crash into a wall, PCHR said.
