League calls on UN to take steps to halt Israel strikes; Jordan slams Israel for attacks on strip, killing of Egyptian policemen.
The Arab League condemned on Sunday Israeli air strikes on the Gaza Strip, calling on Israel to cease military action in both the strip and Egypt immediately.
The Arab League issued a statement on Sunday, imploring the United Nations to take action to end the attacks in which 15 people have died.

"We issued a statement condemning the Israeli offensive on Gaza ... and Egyptian land," Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Elaraby told reporters in Cairo.
"The United Nations has to take procedures to stop the Israeli offensive on Gaza," he said, without giving details of the measures he was urging the UN to take.
Among those killed in the aerial attacks were the leader of an armed Palestinian faction and five civilians including three children.
Israel commenced the strikes after an assault along its border killed eight Israelis on Thursday. Over 100 rockets were fired from Gaza into Israel over the weekend.
The Jordanian government also condemned on Sunday the Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip as well as the killing of Egyptian policemen by Israeli troops in the Sinai border area.
"Jordan strongly condemns and categorically rejects this dangerous Israeli military escalation against civilians in Gaza," said the minister of state for media affairs, Abdullah Abu Romman.
He urged "an immediate halt" on Israeli attacks on Gaza to prevent a "further escalation that could jeopardize the security and stability of the entire region."
Late Saturday, police prevented hundreds of Jordanians from gathering at the Israeli embassy in Amman to protest the attacks.Haaretz Daily Newspaper
