HEBRON, August 21, 2011 (WAFA) – Over 50 Israeli military vehicles, accompanied by large forces, Sunday raided the city of Hebron in the southern West Bank and arrested 60 Palestinians, in the largest ongoing military operation in the city since 2003.
Israeli soldiers raided and searched Palestinian houses, tampered with their contents, arrested dozens of Palestinians including a member of the Palestinian Legislative Council, and took them to detention centers.
Palestinian Prisoner's Club (PPC) said that Hebron has been suffering “catastrophic mass arrests” since the beginning of 2011, adding that “most detainees are beaten and harassed by Israeli soldiers.”
Meanwhile, Israeli soldiers raided the house of the Mufti of Bethlehem in al-Dheisheh refugee camp near the city, wounded three Palestinians and arrested two of them, after refusing to allow the Palestinian Red Crescent to attend to their injuries.
Three Palestinian minors were also arrested in al-Khader, a town south of Bethlehem, after an Israeli raid on the town.
The military operation in the West Bank coincides with the Israeli air strikes on the Gaza Strip, following an armed attack in southern Israel on August 18 that left eight Israelis dead.WAFA
