JERUSALEM, August 22, 2011 (WAFA) – Israeli police Monday escalated its strict security measures in the Old City of Jerusalem, Al-Aqsa Mosque and its surroundings and intensified police presence in the area.
The police closed the gates of Al-Aqsa Mosque and hindered worshippers from entering for dawn prayers, which led to a protest in order to open the gates, and caused detailed and provocative inspection of Palestinian youth by Israeli police.
Witnesses said large numbers of Israeli border guards and police raided the Old City of Jerusalem and its neighborhoods at dawn, which is suspected to be part of the Israeli police training to face the potential consequences of September and the Palestinian bid to the United Nations.WAFA
