DFLP holds rally in Gaza City to support UN bid

GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- The Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine on Tuesday organized a rally at UN headquarters in Gaza City in support of Palestine's bid for membership of the world body.

DFLP leader Talal Abu Tharefa said the demonstration was held ahead of the Palestinian Central Committees meeting on Wednesday to discuss practical steps to gain UN recognition of Palestine as an independent state.

Abu Tharefa urged the UN to redeem the dispossession of Palestinians over the last 63 years by recognizing a Palestinian state based on UN resolution 181. The 1947 resolution called for historic Palestine to be split into two independent states.

He also urged Fatah and Hamas to speed up implementation of the reconciliation agreement and to include all Palestinian factions in their discussions.
