Egypt''s good ties with Israel, Hamas secured deal -- Shalit

GAZA, Oct 18 (KUNA) -- Freed Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit said on Tuesday that the Egyptian authorities succeeded in working out a prisoner swap deal between Israel and the Palestinians due to their good relations with Tel Aviv and the Islamic Hamas movement.
Shalit, speaking to the Egyptian Television shortly after he was handed over to the Egyptians early on Tuesday, said he was notified about his planned release a week ago, and that he would regain freedom according to a deal between Tel Aviv and Hamas. He also expressed hope that the accord would pave way for establishing sustainable peace between the Palestinians and Israelis.
Asked whether he planned to launch a popular campaign in Israel to help release more than 5,000 Palestinians held there, Shalit said he would be "quite pleased to free them all so they could reunited with their families and relatives."
