GALILEE, October 4, 2011 (WAFA) – Arab Bedouin villages in the Galilee, north of Israel, Tuesday observed a general strike to protest Monday’s arson of a mosque in the village of Tuba-Zangariya, according to local sources.
Schools and businesses joined in the general strike.
Hundreds of Arabs and religious leaders arrived in the Galilee village in a show of solidarity and to condemn what they described as a criminal act.
Residents of Tuba-Zangariya demonstrated in the streets, burning tires and throwing stones at Israeli police, who responded by firing tear gas and stun grenades at the protesters.
