General Strike in Naqab after Israeli Decision to Deport Bedouins

NAQAB, October 6, 2011 (WAFA) – A general strike is being observed Thursday throughout the Naqab in southern Israel, protesting the decision of the Israeli government’s “Bravar” commission decision to deport Bedouins from their land, according to local sources.

The High Follow up Committee for Arab Citizens in 1948 Lands (Israel) announced a general strike following the Israeli government’s approval of the Bravar commission’s recommendations in which more than 800,000 dunums of Palestinian land will be confiscated and 30,000 Palestinians living in unrecognized areas will be displaced.

The Bravar committee also recommended the establishment of new villages and forcing Palestinian residents to move and live in these recognized areas, in order to seize their land.

The follow up committee called upon Arab masses to participate in the demonstration scheduled today in front of the office for the displacement of Arabs in the Naqab, in order to support the steadfastness of the Naqab residents.
