JERICHO, January 23, 2012 (WAFA) – Fatah Central Committee member and chief negotiator Saeb Erekat Monday called on the international community to immediately intervene to release all Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, according to a press release published by his office.
Erekat called particularly for the release of 25 members of the Palestinian Legislative Council, prisoners arrested before May of 1994, women, children, the ill and senior prisoners.
Erekat restated the January 26 deadline set by the Quartet for the parties to present proposals on security and borders in order to return to the negotiations table, adding that Israel would close the door to resume the final status negotiations if it did not uphold its obligations.
He condemned the demolitions in al-Ouja, a town north of Jericho, as a part of the Israeli government’s settlements and de facto policy.
Erekat’s statements came following separate meetings with the special UN coordinator for the Middle East peace process, Robert Serry, US Consul General Daniel Rubenstein, Quartet representative Tony Blair, and the former representative of the European Union to the Palestinian Territory, Christian Berger.Palestine News & Info Agency - WAFA
