JERUSALEM, January 22, 2012 (WAFA) – An Israeli soldier Sunday shot a Palestinian, Abd al-Hakeem Ghawadreh, in the foot while crossing the Qalandia military checkpoint, north of Jerusalem, according to witnesses.
Israeli media claimed that the Palestinian, who is a resident of the village of Bir Al-Basha, south of the northern West Bank city of Jenin, pulled out an ax out a bag he was carrying, when an Israeli soldier shot him in the foot.
Witnesses in the area denied the Israeli media claims and said that the soldier fired toward the Palestinian’s feet without prior warning or any justification.
The injured was transferred to Hadassah Ein Karem hospital in West Jerusalem for treatment.
Meanwhile, Israeli forces, following the incident, stormed the village of Bir Al-Basha, declared it a closed military zone and raided Ghawadreh’s house as well as the houses of several family members, destroying their contents and photographing them thoroughly.
Ghawadreh’s family said that their son, who suffers from psychological issues, disappeared five months ago.
Forces also stormed Al Shohada Triangle south of Jenin.Palestine News & Info Agency - WAFA
