The non-governmental Palestinian organization the Land Research Center (LRC), in cooperation with the Civic Coalition for Defending the Palestinians' Rights in Jerusalem, has published a report detailing Israeli violations of human rights in Jerusalem for the month of June.
According to the report, Israel committed 25 violations against Palestinians in Jerusalem. Nine of them dealt with the basic right to residency, including incidents of attempted seizures of Palestinian homes by Israeli settlers and orders of home demolitions.
In one instance, the Israeli Occupation Municipality in Jerusalem ordered on June 17 the demolition of the house of Wael al-Razem in Wad Yasoul; the house, home to a family of eight, will face demolition on July 17.
Israel also has plans to demolish the homes of some seven families in the Al Bustan neighborhood.
Israeli settlers have also upped pressure on the Municipality to demolish the Al Fatih Mosque in Ras al Amoud, Silwan. The mosque, the only one in Silwan, serves some 15,000 Palestinians.
The Israeli Occupation Municipality has even threatened to demolish the only toilet for the An Nabi Samuel School, claiming the school lacks a permit for it.
Other transgressions included plans to change the names of streets, neighborhoods, and avenues and giving them Jewish names, Silwan to "Shiloh", Wadi Hilwa to "City of David", etc. The Israeli authorities also began changing the names of land parcels and landmarks to confuse their Arab owners and make any attempt to follow up on the legal status of the land more difficult.
Israeli settlers engaged in acts of vandalism, notably an incident of twenty olive trees being set on fire.
Meanwhile, Israeli diggings, excavations, and construction has occurred often at the cost to local Palestinian residents, including on Sultan Solomon Street, at near Solomon Cave, and in and around the Umayyad palaces.
Israeli housing proceeded apace with the building of 1600 housing units on lands confiscated from the Arab town of Sur Baher, another 24 in At Tur, and another 32 over the recently demolished Shepherd Hotel.
