GAZA CITY (Ma’an) -- Unknown assailants attempted to set fire to Ma'an Network's office in Gaza City early Sunday, in an incident described by the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate as an attack on freedom of speech.
Staff at the agency's main office in Gaza said a gate in front of the building was seen burning and bottles filled with flammable liquids were discovered not far from the news room.
Yousef Al-Ostath, a member of the press syndicate, Palestine's representation in the International Federation of Journalists, said the attack was intended to stifle free speech and impose restrictions on media.
He called for an investigation into the attack, which was not the first against Ma'an in Gaza.
