Cairo – PNN – For the second time this month and the fourth time in 2011 saboteurs have blown up a gas pipeline supplying gas from Egypt to Israel.
Israeli daily Haaretz reported that the incident took place today at the Al-Tawil gas distribution station in the Northern Sinai. The Al-Tawil station pumps gas to the Sheikh Zwayed station which subsequently pumps it to Israel.
MENA news agency stated that witnesses had seen aggressors attacking the Al-Tawil security guard in the early hours of Tuesday morning. The security guard and members of his family were believed to be injured in the confrontation.
The Egyptian States Nile television claimed that the flames from the explosion could be seen from 20 kilometres away.
MENA reported that the flames are now under control and the governor of Northern Sinai and the areas security chief are currently hunting out the perpetrators.
There is currently repair work underway at another pipeline supplying Egyptian gas to Israel after another pipeline was blown up on July 4th. Previously two other attacks this year on similar pipelines on April 27th and February 5th had resulted in disruption to gas supply for weeks.
