Escalation against Prisoners to Divert Attention from Settlements, Says Official

RAMALLAH, October 2, 2011 (WAFA) - The Palestinian National Council (PNC) Chairman, Salim Zanoun, Sunday said that the Israeli escalation against Palestinian prisoners detained at the Israeli jails aims to divert attention from the ongoing settlements’ construction and from the Palestinian UN bid.

In a press release, Zanoun affirmed his full support of Palestinian prisoners’ demands, who has been on hunger strike since Wednesday.

He affirmed that these Israeli measures against prisoners are a humiliation of human dignity and violation of human rights’ principles, rules of the humanitarian international law and the Geneva conventions.

He called upon the international community, international institutions and human rights organizations to uphold their ethical and humanitarian responsibilities toward the Palestinian prisoners and to intervene to end the Israeli violations in order to stop the suffering of prisoners.

He warned that the situation in the Israeli prisons will explode due to these Israeli measures which endanger prisoners’ lives.
