Turkish PM says Israel must lift ban on Gaza prior to normalization

GAZA, July 18 (KUNA) -- Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan called on Israel to lift the sige imposed on Gaza Strip as a precondition for normalizing ties with the Jewish state, the Jerusalem Post said in its website on Monday.
The newspaper quoted Israeli officials as saying that "Erdogan demanded last week that in addition to apologizing for the Mavi Marmara incident and paying compensation, Israel must also lift the blockade of Gaza as a precondition to a normalization of ties." The newspaper said Israeli officials saw such preconditions as complicating efforts to find a resolution to the issue.
"The UN's Palmer Commission established to investigate the incident is expected to issue its findings at the end of the month, and Israeli and Turkish officials have been engaged in negotiations trying to hammer out a formula acceptable to both sides before the issuing of the report," the Jerusalem Post said.
According to Jerusalem Post the 90-pages report is expected to find that Israel have legal rights to impose sanctions on Gaza, however, it will acknowledge that Israel has used excessive force in the Mavi Marmara Flotilla-I attack.
According to the Israeli newspaper, Israel has expressed numerous times its readiness to compensate the families of the nine Turkish activists who were killed in the Mavi Marmara, but asked in turn to end the legal pursuit of its soldiers who were engaged in the attack.
