PARIS, December 24, 2011 (WAFA) – France announced its full support to the inter-Palestinian reconciliation under the leadership of President Mahmoud Abbas, said spokesman of the French Foreign Ministry, Bernard Valero, to a news briefing on Friday.
“This is an important element for the unity of the future State of Palestinian, and in that sense, this reconciliation is in Israel’s future interests,” said Valero, in light of Abbas meeting with Hamas leader Khaled Mishaal in Cairo on Thursday.
He added that any adhesion by Hamas to the PLO should translate into Hamas’ acceptance of the organization’s charter and its agreements with Israel, including the Oslo accords, as well as all the principles of the peace process aimed at achieving a comprehensive resolution with two states living in peace, including the 2003 roadmap.
Valero stressed that the inter-Palestinian reconciliation must accompany a lasting truce between the Gaza Strip and Israel based on denouncing violence, respecting previous agreements and recognizing Israel.
France also demanded the Israeli government to end the blockade on the Gaza Strip.
