RAMALLAH, December 25, 2011 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies Sunday reported on the participation of President Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Salam Fayyad in the Christmas Eve celebrations in Bethlehem.
Al-Quds reported on a dinner party attended by Abbas, Fayyad and several other officials during which Abbas said that “peace is a mutual interest for both Palestinians and Israelis.”
Al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Ayyam quoted Latin Patriarch Fouad Twal, who led the Midnight Mass in the Church of the Nativity, as saying: “I pray for a Palestinian state alongside Israel to end suffering in the holy land.”
The three papers printed photos of Abbas and Jordanian Foreign Minister, Nasser Judeh at the dinner party and the Midnight Mass.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida reported on the thousands of Syrians who participated on Saturday in the funerals of those who lost their lives in the Friday suicide bombings in Damascus.
Al-Ayyam quoted PLO Central Committee member Azzam al-Ahmad saying “Hamas and the Islamic Jihad will join the PLO after the formation of the new Palestinian National Council.”
Al-Quds featured the Israeli high court’s decision to suspend work on the Apartheid Wall in the Gush Etzion settlement block, south of Bethlehem.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida reported on calls by France to end blockade on the Gaza Strip, welcoming at the same time the Palestinian reconciliation talks.
Al-Quds editorial wished all Christian Palestinians a merry Christmas and addressed the international community and whoever believes in right, justice, peace and freedom to stand by the Palestinian people to help them live in dignity.Palestine News & Info Agency - WAFA
